‘I Hugged the Berlin Patient’, a homegrown docu-film like no other, opens today

I Hugged the Berlin Patient, a docu-film by cancer survivor Edgar Tang and filmmaker Dzul Sungit, screens today through Dec. 11 at the Cathay Cineplexes.

The film documents almost raw, Tang’s riveting journey across three continents to meet with Timothy Brown aka The Berlin Patient, the first HIV patient in the world to be completely cured of the condition.

Tang, who recovered from Stage II Hodgkins’ Lymphoma in 2007, the same year Brown went through his first risky bone marrow transplant, eventually meets with the man whose ordeal is parallel to his own, and the impact is potentially breath-taking.
