Little India has been pronounced as a proclaimed area under the Public Order (Preservation) Act for the weekend by the police.
The areas marked by the police for the ban of sale and consumption of alcohol this weekend are from Jalan Besar Road to Dorset Road and from Hampshire Road to Short Street.
Anyone caught consuming alcohol within these places will have their alcohol seized.
However, if a person’s behaviour is unruly under the influence of alcohol, police can arrest him or her under the Miscellaneous Offences — Public Order and Nuisance — Act.
The implementation of the ban is so as to stabilise the situation from the riot on Sunday, Dec. 8.
The ban on alcohol will affect about 374 stakeholders and establishments.
