200 foreign workers formally advised by police, alcohol ban to continue

200 foreign workers were issued formal police advisories on Dec. 22 at the Police Cantonment Complex for being involved in the Little India riot.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has stated that the 200 individuals’ involvement in the riot were assessed to be passive and incidental.

As such, they will also not be detained nor sent back to their home countries and are allowed to continue with their employment provided they do not come to adverse notice again.

In another statement on Facebook, the police said that the ban on consumption of alcohol within the demarcated areas of Little India will continue every weekend, eve of public holidays and public holidays.

Retail and wholesale of alcohol must stop by 8pm except for — as stated by the Commissioner of Police — “public houses and beer houses”, which can sell various types of alcohol during the times permitted by their licenses, as long as consumption is limited to their premises.

On weekends, the ban is imposed from 6am on Saturdays to 6am on Mondays. On the eve of public holidays and public holidays, the ban will start at 6am on the eve till 6am on the day after the public holiday.

Anybody who behaves disorderly while drunk will be arrested by the police under the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act.

There will also be an increased frequency of police patrol around the area.
