One capsized barge survivor rescued around Bintan Island

One crew member of the Bolivia-flagged barge Heng Hong 168 was found on Dec. 22 around Bintan Island, four days after the barge’s capsize in Singapore waters about three nautical miles west of Horsburgh Lighthouse.

According to a statement by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the survivor was rescued by the Indonesian Coast Guard and was subsequently sent to a hospital in Bintan.

The Malaysian agent of the barge is making arrangements to tow the barge back to Malaysia.

Seven have been rescued so far and the search for the other four is still ongoing.
