Two Singapore chimps to shake things up in Mysore, India

Kimoni and Nkosi, two chimpanzees from Singapore that were transferred to the Mysore Zoo on Dec. 1, will be shaking things up in the third-largest city of Karnataka, India come the new year.

Their one-month quarantine is about to end and the chimps have already acclimatised to their surroundings, thanks to a senior animal keeper from the Singapore Zoo, who’d stayed with them for five days and trained local staff on their habits.

Before releasing them in an open moat enclosure, the zoo will first put the chimps through biomedical tests and make sure they’re examined by quarantine certification authorities.

The Mysore Zoo may allow Kimoni and Nkosi to join their four existing chimps in three months, and are expecting a third chimp from Singapore, a female called Bianta, in 2015.
