Daniel Goh, founder of favourite hawker stall The Good Beer Company, wrote in a Facebook post on Jan. 10 calling out the National Environment Agency’s hawker licensing rules, one of which he called “stupid” and “onerous”.
The particular ruling, which reads, “in the case of a cooked food stall, no restaurant type of dishes shall be sold unless the licensee has been authorised to do so in writing by the Director-General of Public Health”, was also deemed “archaic” by Environment and Water Resources Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, who responded to Goh’s post on Jan. 13.
In his response, Dr. Balakrishnan said he agreed with Goh and revealed he’s instructed NEA to remove the rule with immediate effect.
