Where to find healthy food that tastes good

Feeling sick from having had too much ‘good food’ during the back-to-back festivities? Nurse yourself back to health at these seven body-conscious restaurants. We’ve only picked the ones serving the best-tasting food, so bookmark this, locate them all and get eating.

Best Healthy Eatery for Ice Cream Addicts: Brownice

#01-03 Sin Ming Centre, 8 Sin Ming Rd., 6456-0431, brownice.com. Open Mon — Thu 1 — 11pm, Fri — Sun 1pm — midnight.

Brownice

As if being healthy isn’t reason enough for patrons to flock to this spot, Brownice offers ice cream that the lactose-intolerant and vegans can enjoy. Indulge in ice cream that does not use artificial chemical preservatives and emulsifiers, or flavourings — not even artificial sweeteners! Prices start at $3.80 per scoop and $1.00 for toppings. For an even more gratifying experience, opt for the intense chocolate mudpie ($9.80) made with smooth French and hazelnut chocolate ice cream, served on a bed of brown rice crisps and topped with dark chocolate ganache and caramelised sea salt almonds.

Best Healthy Eatery for Cake-lovers: Delcie’s Desserts & Cakes

#01-28B Fortune Centre, 190 Middle Rd., 9789-2309, delciesdesserts.com. Open Tue — Sun 11am — 8pm.

Delcie

Baked with all-natural ingredients (we’re talking organic agave, pure dark chocolate — the works), Delcie’s lets you indulge in irresistible cakes without the guilt of compromising on calories. The only bakery in Singapore awarded with the Healthier Choice Bakery Certification by the Health Promotion Board, Delcie’s cakes are healthy, organic, egg-free, dairy-free, diabetic-friendly and allergy-friendly. Prices start at $40 for a 5.5-inch cake. Fans of chocolate and bananas will love the Chocolatenana — rich chocolate cream and fresh bananas. It’s no wonder cakes here are referred to as “sweet cheaters”.

Best Healthy Eatery for Adventurous Eaters: The Living Café (top photo)

779 Bukit Timah Rd., 6762-8029, balancedlivingasia.com/living-cafe-and-deli. Open Mon 11am — 7pm, Tue — Fri 11am — 10pm, Sat 9am — 10pm, Sun 9am — 7pm.

Chockfull of antioxidants, living enzymes, proteins, vitamins and minerals (and that’s not even all of it), raw food is definitely the way to go. Having said that, raw food needs to be prepared at less than 47 degrees Celsius, making it incredibly tedious. Adventurous eaters, we recommend the TLC burger ($15), which consists of a dehydrated patty made of Portobello mushrooms, seeds and nuts soaked for six to eight hours, with tomatoes, fresh onion rings, raw beetroot and guacamole wrapped in a romaine lettuce ‘bun’, drizzled with a cheesy sauce made from macadamia nuts.

Best Healthy Eatery for the Super Busy: P.L.T Sandwiches

Asia Square Tower 2, Food Garden, 12 Marina View.

If these sandwiches were laden with calories, we would still eat it — it’s that good. Fortunately, these babies are as nutritiously wholesome as they are delicious. Every ingredient is drafted into the mix to add to the healthy quotient, so you’ve got your greens, protein, homemade sauces and everything set straight—right down to house-baked bread. We love the mildly spicy shroom tofu burger ($8)—densely grilled tofu patty packed with mushrooms, crunchy pepperonata and a sweet Bavarian mustard and mayo dressing—great for busy professionals who mostly either eat at their desk (or not at all). Opt to make it a Hearty Meal (from $13), consisting of a sandwich, a small soup and juice.

Best Healthy Eatery for Gluten-free Vegans: SaladStop!

Various outlets including #01-36 Chevron House, 30 Raffles Plc., 6735-4487, saladstop.com.sg.

Salad Stop

Just because it’s a salad doesn’t mean it’s healthy — it’s what goes in it that matters. SaladStop! serves gluten-free salads that are low in fat and high on flavour. Incredibly addictive is Go Geisha ($9.80)—a cold soba noodle salad with red and white cabbage, tofu, edamame, carrots, snow peas, cucumber and sesame seeds, tossed in a savoury Japanese miso dressing. There are 15 salads on the menu, but if you’re picky, there’s a create-your-own option ($9.90) that lets you choose from over 60 ingredients (including 35 free toppings) and 18 homemade dressings.

Best Healthy Eatery for Weight-watchers: Smoothie King

Various outlets including #05-01A  Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, 8 Grange Rd., smoothieking.sg/stores.

Smoothie King

If you’re trying to lose weight, eliminating carbs is one way to do it. Substitute a meal with Smoothie King’s ‘Nutritious Meals’ smoothies like High Protein Almond Chocolate (from $5.90) —made with dark chocolate and 11 grams of whey protein that keeps hunger pangs at bay. There’s a total of 27 smoothies to choose from, blended with all natural ingredients and real fruit, resulting in less than 250 calories per smoothie (354ml). Our personal favorite: Angel Food (from $5.70) — a creamy blend of strawberries and bananas full of natural sweetness from fruit. Now this is what we call a (healthy) liquid diet.

Best Healthy Eatery for Vegans: VeganBurg

Various outlets including #02-05 Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 3, 12 Marina Blvd., 6604-6018, veganburg.com.  Open Mon — Fri 11am — 9:30pm.

Vegan Burg

Perfect for vegans on-the-go, world’s first vegan burger fast food joint, VeganBurg, serves meatless burgers at affordable prices (from $5.90). Choose from seven burgers (we liked the Hawaiian teriyaki best; $6.90) with side options (add $3.90) such as seaweed fries, handmade spinach pops and granny’s soup. Seasonal burger, avocado beetroot ($8.90), is a mouthful of fresh flavours — crispy soy patty atop a bed of fresh lettuce, tomato and onions rings with a creamy dressing that’s evidently avocado and a hint of beetroot. There’s even organic brown rice ice cream ($5.90) to sweeten the deal.
