Rare animal sighting at Marina Barrage — it even ‘posed’ for photos

An otter about half a metre long (excluding its tail) was spotted at Marina Barrage early this morning.

According to Yahoo! Singapore, 43-year-old Winston Chew had seen the creature coming out of the water at about 8:30am.

Chew said the otter then crossed the walkway and started rolling around on a grass patch. When approached for a photo op, the animal gave chase, but stopped when it got distracted by some birds.

Chief executive of the Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES) Louis Ng told Yahoo! this was the first time he’d heard of an otter being spotted near Marina Barrage.

He said the animal sightings were usually located in Pasir Ris Park and the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.
