Singapore Airlines replaces SingTel as title sponsor of Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix

After six years, the Formula 1 (F1) Singapore Grand Prix will have its first change in title sponsor with Singapore Airlines taking over the reins from SingTel.

Accordingly, the upcoming race from Sep. 19 — 21 be named the 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix.

The two-year sponsorship deal was announced on April 15 at the Singapore Airlines Training Centre.

“We are thrilled to be taking up the title sponsorship of one of the most exciting races on the F1 calendar, and we are especially pleased to be doing so in the lead-up to Singapore’s 50th birthday next year,” Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong said in a statement released by the company. “Singapore Airlines has always supported the development of both sports and tourism. Through our involvement with the world’s first F1 night race we will be able to enhance both for the benefit of Singaporeans and visitors alike.”

A video entitled “The Big Reveal” (watch it below) was released on the airline’s YouTube channel featuring behind-the-scenes footage of a photo shoot involving a Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 and a Lotus F1 car.
