New National Stadium pitch prepared to work overtime

The new National Stadium located at the Singapore Sports Hub isn’t even open, but already we’re feeling a real connection to the place.

Channel NewsAsia reported today that we’re the first in Asia to use the Desso GrassMaster on the stadium pitch.

It’s a higher quality playing surface that involves injecting 100 percent natural grass with artificial fibres 18cm into the ground at every 2cm across the pitch to keep it strongly anchored.

The Desso Grassmaster is expected to enhance safety and performance levels for athletes, but really it’s so that it’ll be tough enough for a hectic schedule, which right now includes the rugby World Cup 10s in June, as well as Singapore football games against Malaysia and Juventus FC in August.

Earlier this year, Singapore Sports Council CEO Lim Teck Yin spoke of the Sports Hub, which is scheduled for a June opening, “the venue is going to be very (heavily) booked, more so than many other venues around the world”.
