Man arrested for stealing from cars in Clementi

A 38-year-old man has been arrested for stealing from cars within the Clementi area.

From April 24 to June 15, police had received reports of items like cash cards, handphones and wallets being stolen from cars.

The identity of the suspect was established through extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations by officers from the Clementi Police Division, and the suspect was picked up on Aug. 2.

He’s expected to be charged today for Theft from Vehicle and faces up to three years in jail or a fine, or both, if convicted.

The police advise that all vehicle owners adopt the following crime prevention measures:

– Secure windows and doors of vehicle at all times

– Do not leave valuables such as laptops and mobile phones unattended or exposed in the vehicle even for a short while

– Remove cash card from the In-Vehicle Unit (IU)
