Committee set up to make driverless cars in Singapore a reality

We’re one more step further into a future of autonomous vehicles in Singapore; a committee has just been set up to make this sci-fi dream a reality.

According to a the Ministry of Transport, a 17-member Committee on Autonomous Transport for Singapore (CARTS) will preside over the project and oversee research into driverless technology for Singapore’s land transport system.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport Pang Kin Keong will be at the helm of this think tank, which also comprises of representatives from relevant planning agencies including the Land Transport Authority (LTA), Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) and more, in addition to a number of international specialists and academics who have been invited to join CARTS.

It’s an exciting time for autonomous vehicles, with response being overwhelmingly positive for Google’s own self-driving cars, which comes without steering wheels.
