Hong Kong has officially overtaken sunny Thailand as the most popular overseas destination amongst Singaporeans, according to data from the latest Hotels.com Hotel Price Index.
Charting hotel prices paid around the world, the survey has revealed that more Singaporean travellers have flocked to Hong Kong in the first six months of 2014, compared to the same period last year when Bangkok, Thailand took the top spot. The city now ranks second, proving that Singaporean holidaymakers still hold the Land of Smiles close to their hearts.
Other surprising changes include Tokyo’s fall from the third spot to sixth, with Taipei, Seoul and even Kuala Lumpur jumping ahead of Japan as popular travelling destinations. Cultural hotspot and UNESCO World Heritage Site Penang is also quickly becoming a favourite locale, jumping to the ninth spot as compared to being number 13 last year.
From the other side of the grass, Singapore still upholds as a top destination for regional sightseers, maintaining the position in the Top 10 places to be for tourists across Asia Pacific, emerging as a popular choice for travellers from India, Australia and Hong Kong.
