Singapore overtakes Bangkok as Asia’s most popular destination

According to global hospitality and leisure distributor GTA, Singapore has seen an increase in the number of rooms booked in the first six months of 2014, successfully overtaking Bangkok as the biggest Asian destination.

The volume of hotel rooms in Singapore booked with GTA by high street, online travel agents and tour operators around the world rose by 35 percent from January to June, with the number of rooms booked by Chinese travellers increasing by 45 percent. Most of the travellers dropping by Singapore are coming from Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, UAE and the UK – all highlighted as important markets by the Singapore Tourism Board.

“This is great news for Singapore and the hotels that are benefiting from our ability to reach practically every part of the planet.” GTA Vice-President of Sales for Asia Daryl Lee remarks.
