Pact, the multi-category emporium on the second floor of Orchard Central, is now bigger — and better — with the addition of five new brands: Code Deco, Fred Lives Here, Killari, kiyone+LIM and Spur Hauswerks.

Homegrown artisanal perfumery Code Deco (9627-7885), a lauded mecca for complex, evocative scents, has chosen Pact to be the venue for its first flagship. You can’t miss it — it’s been given a glasshouse setup right by the Spur Hauswerks (9627-7885) display so you can indulge in some uninterrupted sniffing time. When you’re done there, move to Spur to check out housewares inspired and devised by intelligent Asian design. Do us a favour and bring home something from the Democratic Society’s Singapore icons ceramic collection, or a drying block or coaster from Japan’s Soil — they’re real conversation pieces.
If you’re looking for a bigger talking point for your home, just across the exotic stones by Ecuadorian brand Killari (made for the “fierce but feminine” woman; 9627-7885) is Fred Lives Here (6634-3733). These folks work with both local and international artists such as Ceno2 and Phuong Dang to customise furniture for your taste, but also stock designers like Ibide from France, Danish brand Lucky Boy Sunday and the UK’s Ohh Deer. The impressive 1,800-sq. ft. space is also looking to display its own collection of lighting, as well as indoor and outdoor furniture this month, along with an e-commerce platform.

The gorgeous, sun-filled corner in the 7,500 sq. ft. space is still occupied by Kilo (6884-7560), which offers “comfort food with a twist”, just like its flagship in Kampong Bugis. Under the new Pact, the casual diner is offering an expanded menu that includes Mexican-inspired brunch dishes, as well as new cocktails and happy hour tapas for sharing. True blue fans of Kilo’s offerings can also now take home their line of cookware, co-created with Thai partner Dibdib ($7 — 130), plus condiments like their paprika fleur de sel ($12) and roasted Thai jasmine rice ($12).
You can also still get your hair (6884-4143) done at Pact, but with the expansion, your nails have a shot at being pampered as well. Kiyone+LIM (6834-3193) extends the in-house Japanese salon to also provide gel nail application for the hands and toes, dressed in whacky themes like “graphic”, “pop”, “monotone” and “illustration”, which basically means “anything is possible”.
And if you’re still missing Know It Nothing (KIN), the multi-brand store that first made waves with its cosy alcove on Haji Lane, spend some time with the product of its evolution, Sifr (6238-6362). Founder Suraj Melwani told us they’re focusing on their line of super-soft premium pima cotton tees, because the brand wants to focus on reliable basics customers collect. “People wear 20 percent of their entire wardrobe 80 percent of the time. We wanted Sift to make that 20 percent cut,” said Melwani. The sift display at the newly expanded Pact thus showcases the brand’s core styles, which Melwani has found through research to be the “everyday favourites — pieces (customers) wore frequently but never threw out”.
