12 animal cafes in Singapore

Love animals so much you can’t be without them for a minute? Cute critters like cats and birds are not always welcome when people are having their meals, but at these places, they’re embraced. Enter the world of kitty latte art and cakes for both you and your pup:

Cats

The Cat Café

241B Victoria St., 6338-6815.

The Cat Cafe

This 1,299 sq. ft. space located on the second level of a shophouse is made lively by 20 great-looking cats.

The Company of Cats

6B Mosque St., 6220-3835.

The Company of Cats

The simplest-looking cat café in Singapore is also the most homey. They consider their eight good-natured cats their “meowkiting” team.

Cuddles Cat Café

#03-01 Scape, 2 Orchard Link.

Cuddles Cat Cafe

By far Singapore’s largest cat café, Cuddles, with its three nature-themed zones — sunset, night and sea — might be the best option for those looking for an experience beyond petting. Also houses a whopping 28 precious kitties.

Meomi Cat Café

G/F 668 North Bridge Rd., 6296-0339.

Meomi Cat Cafe

Meomi Cat Café is a small and cosy home to seven darling felines, which means you don’t have to run around the place for 20 minutes for a photo op.

Neko no Niwa

54A Boat Quay, 6536-5319.

Neko no Niwa

If it wasn’t a cat petting haven, this spacious spot with its plush armchairs and tall white-framed windows could’ve easily passed off as a book café. The cats at Neko no Niwa seem to know they’re ‘royalty’ — you can either find them sunning on the window ledge or on the cat stands.

Dogs

Doggiestyle Café

496 Changi Rd., 6449-1296.

Doggiestyle Cafe

If you’re one to lavish your pets with gifts and treats, here is where you can do it in style – ‘doggiestyle’ that is. The longest-running pet café in Singapore serves as much human food as it does dog treats and you can even share your food — overnight oatmeal, perhaps — with the furry pals.

III Café

2/F 687A East Coast Rd., 6655-8288.

III Cafe

If you’re not new to the dog cafe scene, you probably already know III Café. Loved by many, this place has its own ‘barkery’, which produces delicious canine treats like meatballs ($5) and pupcakes ($4.50). Be sure to order some Mexican chicken drumlets ($5.90) for yourself too.

We are the Furballs

45 East Coast Rd., 6348-6630.

We are The Furballs

Unlike the aforementioned dog cafes, We are the Furballs (WTF) doesn’t allow dog lovers to bring their own pets into the café’s premises. Strictly a petting café, WTF has their own seven hounds that will keep you on your feet, by having you run after them or well, just barking excitedly at you, like what white princess Lola does everytime we go.

Others

Ah Meng Restaurant

Singapore Zoo, Terrace, 80 Mandai Lake Rd., 6269-3411.

Ah Meng Restaurant

Get friendly with the orangutans at the Singapore Zoo in memory of the attraction’s first ever star that died in 2008. Tuck into a good lunch and teach your kids (or yourself!) about Ah Meng, whose photos are plastered all over the walls.

Riders Café

51 Fairways Dr., 6466-9819.

Riders Cafe

Riders Café is one of our favourite Sunday date spots. The atmosphere is great and the food is satisfactory. Tuck into the Blackstone Benedict ($15) if you’re in a breakfast mood or share a plate of truffle fries ($10) with friends. Don’t forget to wave to the horsies as they pass by!

Lunch with Parrots at Jurong Bird Park

Bird Park, Songbird Terrace, 2 Jurong Hill, 6360-8560.

Lunch with Parrots

Lunching alfresco can be disastrous, especially when there are birds on the prowl. But at the Jurong Bird Park, it can be a pleasant — and very entertaining — experience. These parrots don’t just mimic the human voice well, but can also draw and perform acrobatic stunts.

Dinner with Penguins at Jurong Bird Park

Bird Park, Penguin Expedition, 2 Jurong Hill, 6661-7807.

Dinner with Penguins

If talking birds make you feel uneasy, spend an evening with penguins instead. Penguins in tropical Singapore is already a pretty rare sight — being able to hae a meal with 200 penguins of five breeds close by will be a pretty special experience.
