Infamous $40 million inheritor arrested for criminal breach of trust

Following the legal tussle over a Singaporean widow’s $40 million fortune, Chinese national Yang Ying has been arrested for suspected criminal breach of trust.

The Singapore permanent resident was already under investigation by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority two days ago on how he obtained his PR status. He has been arrested today following police reports lodged against him, according to Channel NewsAsia

The 40-year-old former tour guide had formed a relationship with 87-year-old retiree Chung Khin Chun during her holiday in China that eventually allowed him to move into her Singaporean home with his family. In 2010, Chung made a will leaving all her assets to Yang, and two years later she gave him the Lasting power of Attorney which gave him full control over her assets, which includes her $30 million bungalow. The decisions were questionable as Chung was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year.

His troubles arrived when Chung’s niece Hedy Mok reported to the police that Yang had stole from her aunt and also went to court to revoke Yang’s guardianship in a high-profile court battle. She suspects that Yang had taken advantage of Chung, stealing cash, jewellery and art pieces from the widow while acting as her guardian.

Chinese newspapers here have uncovered some of Yang’s shady dealings, openly boasting online on blogs and forums that he intends to sell off Chung’s possessions, expressing his love for all things luxury.
