Old Western, New Tech for Boat Quay sports bar opening next week

Live music and sports bar Hero’s, presented by the same folks behind the Mogambo Bar & Restaurant, is set to open next weekend on the fast-evolving Circular Road at Boat Quay.

Boasting an Old Western style, the 2,500 sq. ft. venue is set up with brick and stone wall fixtures, and recycled dark wood with steampunk accents. There’ll also be era-specific paraphernalia, such as longhorn skulls and horse saddles.

Breaking the cowboy momentum is Hero’s VIP-only self-pour draught-beer taps, which will be placed right at the tables. The volume of beer consumed will be tracked electronically and displayed in real-time on a table-top display.

In true hardcore drinking style, groups that manage to guzzle at least 15 litres of golden ale in one night will be inducted into Wild Bill’s Brew Crew — record-breakers get their photos added to the Hall of Fame leaderboard.

In addition to its draught beer selection, Hero’s features a fully-stocked bar that serves signature shooters such as the Kill Bill and Tres Amigos, as well as cocktails like Longhorn and Lone Star.

Kicking things up in the kitchen is local gourmet burger company Bergs with Tex-Mex favourites like Cajun chicken strips and quesadillas.

Hero’s will also have a seven-piece resident band called Vevo, who hails from the Philippines and plays ’70s and beyond rock music six nights a week. The bar also plans to launch Open Mic or jam nights soon.
