Defence Minister Dr. Ng Eng Hen announced in Parliament today that Singapore will join 33 other nations in a multinational coalition against militant group the Islamic State (ISIS).
Dr. Ng assures that the Singapore Armed Forces’ (SAF) contributions will be “within its means” and “sustainable and useful”, Channel NewsAsia reports.
These include liaison and planning officers asisting in the United States Central Command and the Combined Joint Task Force headquarters, a KC-135R tanker aircraft for air-to-air refuelling and an Imagery Analysis team, all assets that have been deployed before in Afghanistan and Iraq.
According to Dr. Eng, there will be no SAF troops on the ground in Iraq and Syria — they will operate out of neighbouring countries instead.
