WTF: Mobile 22 in Sim Lim Square also made customer cry for overcharging

A 19-year-old undergraduate has come forward with her own story about Sim Lim Square and it’s just as tragic as the rest.

According to The Straits Times (ST), the international student, who did not want to be named, had had to pay $1,000 on top of the $999 she had already paid for an iPhone 6.

When she visited Mobile 22 on Oct. 9, the salesman reportedly told her the warranty would cost $39.90, but had strategically covered the term about the $1,000 insurance with his finger as she signed the document.

The girl, who claimed to be “a middle class student from India”, said she barely had money for the phone, much less for the insurance, and had begged them and burst into tears when they wouldn’t return the money charged to her debit card. She said they ignored her, then yelled at her, before agreeing to charge her $551 instead of $1,000.

According to the ST report, the 19-year-old said the day still haunts her and described it as her “worst experience in this country for (she) was told that Singapore was a safe city and incidents like these don’t occur”.

When contacted, an employee at Mobile 22 said she wasn’t free to answer questions and that the owner was not around.
