No more help, says Vietnamese tourist scammed at Sim Lim Square

Scammed Vietnamese tourist Pham Van Thoai has broken the silence on his side of things in the ongoing Mobile Air saga.

Lianhe Zaobao reported today that Pham will not be accepting any more help as he has already accepted a $550 donation from a businessman and already bought an iPhone 6 with the money.

The grave injustice dealt on him at Sim Lim Square went viral on the internet, raising a horde of angry netizens to hunt down and harass Jover Chew, the man running the recalcitrant shop that swindled Pham of his hard-earned money. Factory worker Pham only earns $200 per month, and in a flash he was left $550 poorer after Mobile Air sales staff refused to grant him a full refund.

Singaporean Gabriel Kang has also set up a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to raise funds to purchase an iPhone 6 and extra goodies for Pham, and so far it has accumulated more than USD$11,000 — substantially exceeding the original goal of $1,350.

It seems that the humble Vietnamese will be turning down that colossal amount money. “I lost $550. So I will accept only $550 donated by kind people. Nothing more. I’m grateful for all your kindness but I do not want to take more than what I’ve lost,” Mr Pham told Lianhe Zaobao.
