STB offers assistance to scammed Vietnamese tourist

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) wants to jump on the bandwagon too — they’ve declared that they’re prepared to help scammed Vietnamese tourist Pham Van Thoai.

Channel NewsAsia reports that STB director of Visitor Information & Experience Choo Huei Miin responded to media enquiries regarding the Mobile Air saga, declaring that their readiness in “facilitating any necessary follow up actions he might wish to undertake”.

She reassures visitors that the recent incidents at Sim Lim Square are only limited to a minor segment of Singapore’s retailers and should not be an indication of the whole industry.

Taking a serious stance against dishonest retailers such as Mobile Air and many more, she pledges that STB will take necessary actions under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) act if there are evidence of unfair practices.

Gabriel Kang’s Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign for Pham has already beat STB to the whole ‘assistance’ deal — over $12k in donations have been raised for him. Pham has declined the offer, but reportedly, Kang will continue to persuade him to return to Singapore for another holiday.
