Film committee rejects Tan Pin Pin’s appeal to reclassify film

Looks like the decision is final — Tan Pin Pin’s documentary about Singaporean political exiles To Singapore, with Love is prohibited from screening here.

The filmmaker had submitted an appeal to the Media Development Authority (MDA) on Sept. 30 for her film to be reclassified from its original category of ‘Not Allowed for All Ratings’ (NAR), effectively banishing the film from screening in Singapore.

Today, the Films Appeal Committee announced that they have not changed their minds.

“Having considered the director’s representations, as well as the views of the MDA and relevant government agencies, the Films Appeal Committee has upheld MDA’s NAR classification for To Singapore, with Love,” they wrote.

Tan’s only response to the decision is a curt one on the film’s Facebook page — “NAR decision upheld. Appeal failed”.
