More complaints about People’s Park Complex than Sim Lim Square: CASE

Despite the unsavoury limelight shone on Sim Lim Square’s errant retailers lately, it seems that the amount of complaints about the IT mall doesn’t even hold a candle to Chinatown’s People’s Park Complex.

Channel NewsAsia reports that the latest figures from the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) have evidenced that local shoppers have lodged 146 complaints against retailers at People’s Park Complex, while shops in Sim Lim Square only amassed 103 complaints.

The complaints lodged at People’s Park Complex retailers aren’t limited to just IT products and services — other persistent cases are related to tours, travel and domestic helper agencies.

Some of the businesses actively target Chinese nationals with hidden charges and shady business practices in items such as budget airline tickets and services in massage parlours and beauty salons.

To combat such errant business dealings, the management of People’s Park Complex has been working closely with authorities such as CASE, the police and the Singapore Tourism Board, and will continue monitoring the issues.
