Singapore may very well get first taste of the world’s best gelato flavour next year, as the Gelato World Tour comes to Asia for the first time.

After taking on Australia, Europe, the Middle East, North America and Oceania, the event now wants to put the spotlight on the art of gelato-making and its growing culture in this region, and is going to set up shop at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre from March 20 — 22, 2 —10pm.

Part of the programme are workshops, as well as a showcase of flavours by artisan chefs, 16 of which will come from Singapore and other Asia-Pacific countries. Guests can taste them and vote for their favourites — three will make it to the final round of the competition for the title of world’s best gelato, which will take place in Rimini, Italy at a later date.

Want to be a gelato chef? You can, next year, when Singapore gets our own Carpigiani Gelato University campus, based out of the At-Sunrice culinary school. According to TODAY, Valentina Righi, vice-president of the Bruto and Poerio Carpigiani Foundation, promises the campus will be a hub for Asia-Pacific countries when it launches next year, “making Singapore the gelato capital of Asia”.

The local newspaper also reveals that chefs and an instructor from the famed gelato institution will be hosting Asia’s fist Gelato Charity Dinner here.

Admission to the Gelato World Tour in Singapore is free. Money collected from tasting portions will be donated to charity.
