According to an AFP report, if missing AirAsia flight QZ8501 has indeed crashed and sunk as suspected, Indonesia does not have “the tools”, for example submersible vehicles, to retrieve the plane from the seabed.

This was revealed by the chief of the National Search and Rescue Agency Bambang Soelistyo earlier today, Dec. 29.

But he insists the country is reaching out to other countries for help if necessary. “Due to the lack of technology that we have, I have coordinated with our foreign minister so we will borrow from other countries which have offered. They are the UK, France and US.”
