Lovers of retro Singapore will do well to catch Great World Cabaret (Feb. 19 — March 17, 3pm, 8pm), Dream Academy’s first production of 2015.
The stand-up comedy series — written by local playwright Alfian Sa’at and popular blogger Benjamin “Miyagi” Lee — will feature a different actor each week at the Resorts World Sentosa Theatre.
On the line-up are Singaporean actors Hossan Leong, Mark Lee, Judee Tan and Sebastian Tan. Joanna Dong, Seong Hui Xian and Malaysian singer Aisyah Aziz also co-star as iconic performers Sakura Teng, Rose Chan and Kartina Dahari respectively.
Featuring sequin-clad dancing girls, the debut of new illusion act J C Sum, a family-friendly striptease, as well as well-loved songs from the yesteryear including “Bunga Melur”, Rose Rose I Love You” and “Shake Shake Shake” and “Bunga Mel”, Great World Cabaret promises a heady show of nostalgia, a welcome start to Singapore’s Jubilee year.
