The Esplanade is setting out to celebrate five decades of Singapore theatre history as part of the SG50 celebrations, and what better way to go big by promising to feature 50 plays over the course of five weeks?
Taking place from April 2 to May 10 across the Esplanade venues including their Theatre Studio, Recital Studio and Rehearsal studio, the folks behind ‘The Studios: fifty’ will be paying tribute to homegrown theatre productions by bringing them back to life in 2015.
Only five out of the fifty classics will be full-length productions — Emily of Emerald Hill; The Weight of Silk on Skin; Off Centre; Descendants of the Eunuch Admiral; and The Lady of Soul And Her Ultimate ‘S’ Machine — all of which will feature a mix of veteran and emerging actors and directors.
Though the other plays — including Army Daze and The Last Temptation of Stamford Raffles — will be performed as dramatised readings, they’ll be no less impressive and a proper tribute to the homegrown theatre scene.
