Former Filipino nurse charged for making offensive comments online and lodging false reports

For those wondering what happened to that provocative former Filipino nurse who was dismissed by Tan Tock Seng Hospital for making offensive comments about Singaporeans and Islam online, wonder no more.

28-year-old Ello Ed Mundsel Bello had appeared in court earlier today to face two charges of promoting feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races or classes among the population of Singapore, an offence under the Sedition Act, TODAY reports.

Bello first came into infamy in January over three offensive online posts he made last year, making derogatory comments on Singaporeans and Islam. Screenshots of his comments went viral online, initiating a witch hunt upon him.

Initially, he claimed that his account was hacked and made a police report, but investigations proved otherwise. He has been slapped with three charges of providing false information to a public servant over his false reports.

Under the Sedition Act, Bello could be fined up to $5,000 and/or jailed up to three years if found guilty. If found guilty of knowingly giving false information to a public servant, Bello could be fined up to another $5,000 and/or jailed up to one year.
