Starhub and Singtel also hit by court order to disclose details of alleged illegal downloaders

It seems that M1 customers will not be the only ones facing legal trouble over alleged illegal downloads of Dallas Buyers Club

The two other major internet service providers Starhub and Singtel have also been handed a High Court order to snitch on their customers and provide their particulars based on IP addresses that were allegedly found to have illegally downloaded the Dallas Buyers Club film.

Speaking to Channel NewsAsia, Starhub confirmed that they have indeed received the High Court order and are in the process of complying with it. The company has also engaged external litigation to act for them to ensure that the plaintiff’s claim has been properly assessed by the High Court.

Singtel on the other hand have outrightly refused to provide the information of their subscribers and have appointed external counsel to represent them in court. They lawyers have highlighted legal obligations to keep their customers’ information confidential. Nevertheless, the company is required by law to disclose the identities of their alleged Dallas Buyers Club downloaders by the end of April.
