We’ve all been there. Maybe we’ve stayed late at the office, or we’re fresh off a night on the town. Either way we’re tired and want something good to eat. But it can be tough to find restaurants open after midnight. Enter these quality joints. From cheap dim sum to luxe bar bites, they serve up the best late night eats in town.
 

Korat Thai Cafe

This Thai spot at the notorious Orchard Towers is our go-to for crispy fried chicken skin ($3; pictured above) and sweet-savoury pad thai ($6.50). The café has been dishing spicy plates since 2007. And the chef Pensee Nakvichit used to cook for the Thai Royal Family, so you know the food has to be good. The thumping music and working girls from nearby club, Girl Next Door just add to the charm. Crystal Jade Kitchen (Holland Village)

Right in the heart of bohemian stronghold Holland Village is this reliable branch of the Chinese chain. Almost all the noodle and congee dishes come in at under $10. And everything good. But some standouts include the lean meat preserved egg congee ($7.20), shrimp dumpling noodle soup ($8.60) and stewed beef brisket dry noodles ($9.20). Fordham & Grand

Inspired by the New York cross street of Fordham and Grand in the Bronx (a hub for bootleggers during prohibition), this place stays true to the speakeasy model and is open into the wee hours. They take last orders for supper at 2am. So order up rich snacks like oyster fritters ($8) and baby squid skewers (from $8) to fulfil any late night cravings. Horse’s Mouth

Downstairs of Uma Uma Ramen at The Forum is “secret bar” Horse’s Mouth. (The entrance is behind a black curtain near the front of the noodle house.) Super slick and decorated with stunning origami displays, they offer a killer range of Japanese whiskies. Plus, the bar bites aren’t nearly as pricy as you might expect. The chicken karaage ($10) is among the best in town. Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant

This old school Shanghainese joint at the corner of Desker Road has been around for more than 50 years. And their loyal cliental keeps the place busy at all hours of the night. Expect to queue for a table, but it’s worth the wait. The dim sum is solid and comes at affordable prices. Order up a feast of steamed buns (from $1.60), carrot cake ($2), xiao long bao ($4) and spring rolls ($2), and your bill still won’t hit $10. 191 Jalan Besar, 6225-7788, www.sweechoon.com.
