Unsurprisingly, Hello Kitty EZ-Charms sell out online within hours of launch

If Singaporeans can queue for several hours just to get some limited edition Hello Kitty plushies from McDonald’s, it really isn’t that surprising to hear that the Hello Kitty EZ-Charms sold out within hours of going on sale.

First announced last month as cutesy alternatives to the usual EZ-Link cards, the trinkets offer just the same utility for commuters — it can be used at all EZ-Link acceptance points on buses, trains, taxis, river taxis as well as for shopping and dining (if you’re one of the rare few who actually use EZ-Link for retail).

Pandemonium broke out when the trinkets went on sale online on Apr 30. The overwhelming response left the EZ-Link online shop sluggish and prone to connection errors, and the EZ-Charms sold out in a couple of hours.

Dear Customers, Thank you very much for your support for the EZ-Charms. We apologise for the inconvenience you have…

Though they may be sold out online, EZ-Charms will be available at various 7-Eleven outlets at the end of this month onwards. Expect turmoil once again on the streets.
