SIA slaps on giant Singapore flag designs on two of their Airbuses for SG50, of course

As the months grow closer to a super special national day this year because it’s the 50th birthday or something, more and more companies are tripping over themselves to prove who’s the biggest Singapore lover.

What better way to do so than slapping huge Singapore flags onto their products?

As one of the nation’s most highly-acclaimed company — and among the world’s best — Singapore Airlines (SIA) of course has big shoes to fill up when it comes to celebrating SG50, and they’ve rightly done it by having two of their Airbus A380s in a special livery, featuring a large Singapore flag-themed design on the fuselage.

As the world’s largest aircrafts, the A380s sport a similarly gigantic decal of the Singapore flag-themed design measuring 10m-tall and 47m-long on both sides of the fuselage. According to SIA, it took 12 staff working over a seven-day period to place the decals, of which could actually cover 56 double-decker buses.

The first aircraft with the commemorative livery will take to the skies in early June, while the second one will fly in July. The aircrafts will be serving flights to Beijing, Hong Kong, London Mumbai, New Delhi, Shanghai, Sydney and Zurich routes.

“Singapore Airlines’ success is closely tied to the success of Singapore,” gushed SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong. “What better way to celebrate SG50 than by proudly flying the national flag around the world on the world’s largest aircraft.”

A special A380 Charity Flight is also planned for today, of which around 300 beneficiaries — including children with special needs, disabled adults and disadvantaged families — of the Community Chest will experience a three-hour flight, so that’s nice.
