Cuffed for puffs: Driver busted for under-declared curry puffs and kueh

A 47-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday after speeding through the Tuas checkpoint despite being directed to another area for further inspection. The police tracked down the driver and his car to Pioneer Road North nearly 2 hours later and arrested him.

The man was using a BMW 7-series to transport the curry puffs and kuehs that were likely for sale in Singapore, for which he had a valid permit but had under-declared the quantity in his car, reported The New Paper. He’s probably trying to sell more to afford a new Porsche.

As TNP reports, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said the man was accorded immigration clearance and had proceeded to declare the food products he was importing from Malaysia at the customs red channel — but checks conducted revealed discrepancies in the quantities declared. He was then directed to a designated area for further checks but reportedly misinterpreted the gestures of Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers. Feigning ignorance is really getting old, dude.

The police tracked him down to Pioneer Road North at about 2.04 pm and raided his car. Among the stash of food were curry puffs, packets of nasi lemak and kueh lapis. Local kueh distributers told TNP that importing food items from Malaysia to sell here is very common because of the price difference – 50 pieces of kueh are sold for S$20 here while the same quantity is sold for about S$5.30 in Malaysia. No wonder he’s able to use a BMW instead of the usual beaten up van to transport those curry puffs. Also, he may or may not be yet another curry puff empire lord who’s fiercely competing with the OG karipap Heisenberg
