As the buzz for the General Election builds itself up into an eventual fever pitch, many folks (even us) have been receiving messages claiming to be a tip off about the mysterious date of polling day.
Sept 12 seems to be on the tip of everyone’s tongues both online and IRL, and even former Member of Parliament Inderjit Singh finds that date to be a most likely one, The Straits Times reports. The SG50 celebrations during National Day 2015 should be able to give Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) an appropriately golden display of the government’s achievements.
Other clues that may solidify the Sept 12 hypothesis include the fact the date falls on a Saturday during the week-long school holidays — all the better for officials to set up their usual polling stations. October and November wouldn’t be practical to hold the General Election due to school examinations and various global summits.
Of course, it’s all speculation for now. All you need to do now is to check if you’re even eligible to vote:
(a) Online at the Elections Department website;
(b) At community centres/clubs (with NRIC/passport);
(c) At Singapore overseas missions that serve as overseas registration
centres (with NRIC/passport) as listed; and
(d) At the Elections Department (with NRIC/passport)
Those whose names were removed from the registers may apply to have their name restores in order to vote in the upcoming elections.
