There’s nothing more disappointing than paying for an item in full and realising later on that you’ve been sold a lie.
The Consumers Association of Singapore has issued an injunction against businessman Chiok Wee Juo who has been the subject of 44 complaints since 2008.
The consumer rights group has been trying to set a meeting with the owner of Olena, Bez Gallery and The Exquisite Promenade to no avail.
Here’s hoping he shows up in court on Aug 28.
Chiok has to defend himself against allegations of unfair practices. You see, Chiok has been luring customers with special discounts and asking them to pay for items in full, usually at consumer fairs.
But he would fail to deliver the items on time, if he did at all. Usually, he would offer to replace the original purchase with other items. Which begs the question, did he even have the original furniture in stock?
That’s what CASE will have to find out.
In the meantime, CASE president Lim Biow Chuan has advised buyers not to pay a large deposit and to pya the rest of the purchase price only when the furniture is delivered on time and in good condition.
