Apple Pay comes to Singapore next year, but only for American Express customers

Apple’s much-publicized (and notably meh) contactless payment system is finally coming to Singapore next year — but it’ll only be available for American Express customers.

Apple Pay lets users make payments either online or partnering brick-and-mortar retailers using your iPhones and iPads using your fingerprints, and the service was previously only limited to the United States since October 2014. The service then expanded to the United Kingdom earlier this year, and is now making headway to Canada and Australia before landing in Singapore, Spain and Hong Kong sometime in 2016.

According to The Verge, it’s unknown if Apple Pay will be partnering up with other banks and credit card companies in Singapore — but it’s notable that the adoption rate for the service hasn’t been phenomenal in the United States. For now, it’s up to Amex customers in Singapore to see if Apple Pay lives up to all the hype.

This story comes right after Pure Fitness inadvertently leaked to their members that their Knightsbridge branch will be closing to make way for Apple’s first official store in Singapore
