Artist of the Week: Adeline Kueh
The works of Malaysia-born, Singapore-based artist Adeline Kueh were part of a recent group exhibit, featuring six other artists, curated by Singapore artist Michael Lee.
“The Distance Between My Bed And Yours” and “Love Hotel” by Malaysia-born, Singapore-based artist Adeline Kueh are inextricably linked, both in presentation and theme.
Presented together, the neon of the “vacancy” sign is reflected in the billboard-like, neon lights of the “Love” and “Hotel” signs on the adjacent wall.
Kueh considers the concept of vacancy as representing the dichotomous feelings of welcome and longing. Just as the exhibition aims to explore the aesthetics of “nothing,” Kueh reflects on the relationships we have with daily objects and rituals, a form of “nothing” that arises in all our lives.
