Singaporean pilot almost crashes plane into van full of tourists at Pangkor Island

Under more unfortunate circumstances, a Singaporean pilot would have crashed his aircraft into a van full of tourists at Pangkor Island, off the coast of Perak, Malaysia.

Luckily for him, he barely managed to miss a collision with the van and crashed the plane into the sea near Teluk Dalam, The Star reports.

It was about 1.25pm last Sunday that the light aircraft crashed into the sea, with four passengers onboard. The two Singaporean men, a Malaysian man and a Chinese woman escaped with slight injuries and have received outpatient treatment.

The 66-year-old pilot, Tan Les Lie, injured his lower lip while his 76-year-old co-pilot from Ipoh, Khoo Lam Thean, injured his left hand and right leg. The two other passengers suffered pain on their shoulder and back.

Reportedly, the aircraft had just taken off from the Pangkor Airstrip five minutes before the crash, and went into descent when its engine failed.

The plane was later dragged to shore by a bulldozer. The Civil Aviation Department is currently investigating the case.
