Alleged Yishun cat killer charged with throwing cat from 13th floor; now remanded in IMH

The alleged cat killer of Yishun has appeared in court today and was charged for tossing a cat off a HDB flat.

40-year-old sadist Lee Wai Leong was said to have thrown an adult male Mackerel Tabby domestic shorthair over the parapet of the 13th floor of 115B Yishun Ring Road around 10.30am on Oct 30. The cat died from its injuries, and was reported on the Yishun 326 Tabby cat Facebook page

TODAY reports that he will be remanded in the Institute of Mental Health for assessment before returning to court on Jan 12.

However, the crime he is charged with is only one of the 18 alleged cases of appalling stray cat abuse in Yishun and Sembawang — including those which were found bludgeoned, kicked, strangled and thrown from heights.

Cat lovers can seek solace that if Lee was found guilty of animal cruelty under the Animals and Birds Act, he can be fined up to $15,000 and/or jailed up to 18 months if it was his first offence. Subsequent offences will land him a maximum $30,000 fine and/or up to three years imprisonment.
