Wyclef Jean gets #rekt in disastrous Reddit AMA; of course people asked about Sun Ho

Today in Interweb history, reggae/R&B rapper Wyclef Jean hosted an Ask Me Anything (AMA) sesh on Reddit marking the 20th anniversary of The Score, the classic album of his hip hop group the Fugees.

The three-time Grammy Award-winning musician quickly found out he made a huge mistake.

Nevermind that The Score is considered one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time; nevermind his substantial work with the likes of Lauryn Hill, Shakira, and many others. He got absolutely fuckin’ #rekt in his AMA session as everyone hammered him about his controversial Yéle Haiti charity. But more on that later.

Oh, if you’re unfamiliar with his work, you might be familiar with this saucy one:

If by chance you’re unfamiliar with this Sun Ho character, well… here’s her and her husband — City Harvest Church (CHC) founder Kong Hee — wishing you a happy Chinese New Year.

Wishing you a Happy & Prosperous Chinese New Year!祝你們新年快樂、萬事如意!

Kong Hee — as well as five other CHC leaders — were convicted and jailed for conspiracy to commit criminal breach of trust for misusing a whopping amount of over $50 million of church funds. Most of it went to financing the music career of church founder Kong Hee’s wife, Sun Ho, in an initiative called the Crossover Project. The Crossover Project’s goal was to use Ho’s music to evangelise, which must have been a success if you felt closer to God after watching the music video she did with Wyclef above.

Obviously, some folks couldn’t miss a chance in asking the rapper some questions about his extensive work with Sun Ho:

Sun Ho — dubbed the “World’s Saddest Christian Pop Star” by NOISEY — reportedly even paid US$1.5 million to collaborate with Wyclef. That obviously did nothing to help her pretty lame music career.

Sun Ho however wasn’t the biggest issue in the AMA — Wyclef was totally destroyed over Yéle Haiti. The charity (legally known as the Wyclef Jean Foundation) was set up in 2001 to help the people of Haiti through scholarships, school funding, meals and other benefits.

It was in the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake however that placed the charity’s profile front and center, successfully raising over a million dollars for the affected Haitians. The only issue? The charity was a scam. We’ll let this top comment by /u/skybrew explain everything:

Here’s some more of the funnier questions that provided the nails to this very dead AMA.

Wyclef Jean, Kong Hee, Sun Ho… Birds of a feather flock together no?
