Somebody created a Chrome plugin to remove all the #RememberingLKY posts on Facebook

There’s been a lot of buzz today about the first anniversary of Lee Kuan Yew’s death. And rightly so — he’s Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, after all, and he contributed heaps to building up our nation.

But then there are people who take the act of paying tribute to the extreme — ones who claim to see LKY’s cloud-shaped face in the sky shining down upon us, or teachers who instruct kindergarten kids to bow before a remembrance site.

So how much is too much? Where is the line between respectfully commemorating the man’s death and expressing reverence to the point of worship? And when will the flood of LKY stories (which already started earlier this month) come to an end?

For those non-conformists out there who are can’t stand the deluge of posters, opinions, videos and what not cascading down your Facebook feed like an avalanche, help is on the way. Someone actually designed a Forget Ah Kong Chrome extension to hide any mention of LKY on Facebook feeds.

Here’s a short description from the creator: “It’s perfect for those of us who can’t stand the sustained collective effervescence and/or its political and nationalistic appropriations. It’s also great for anyone who loves him so much that they can’t bear to see his name on any Facebook posts.”

Now you see it.
Now you don’t.

So we tested it out, and all articles related to LKY instantly disappeared from our Facebook. It was a little strange to scroll down and not see his name anywhere, as if today was just another regular day, but if you’d like to give it a shot, the extension works until Mar 30.
