Newly minted Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) Kok Heng Leun is fast becoming our favourite champion of the arts.
Staying true to his title as an ‘Arts NMP’, the artistic director of theatre company Drama Box wants to hear the views and opinions of the local creative community — and what better way to do so than in a town hall meeting? Kok has been garnering praise from his fellow stalwarts of art in Singapore since his powerful speech in Parliament recently, and support behind him looks to get even stronger.
No doubt only time will tell if his efforts as a political face for the arts will bear palpable fruit — but for now at least pundits in the creative industry can be assured that their voices be heard among the powers that be.
