SMRT celebrates 100 disruption-free days for NSL — then train services get disrupted again

Ah well, they jinxed it. Just mere days after Minister of Transport Khaw Boon Wan celebrated a milestone of 100 disruption-free days for the North-South Line (NSL), it got hit by issues yet again today.

The disruption occured this morning, with a train fault affecting train services from Marina South Pier all the way to Newton, in the direction towards Jurong East. It took an hour for SMRT to get the NSL up and running in full again, but alas, the damage was done — the clock turned back to zero.

Even the minister must see the irony in it. In a blogpost celebrating the now-vanished milestone a few days ago, he had written “Any lapse, and we are back to square one, much like a game of snakes and ladders, and the clock is reset.” Well, it just did.

As a consolation, at least the new Downtown Line is still on its way to reaching the 200-day mark without service disruptions. Or maybe that’s jinxed too.
