Two weeks’ jail for woman who assaulted cops after swimming topless at Tanjong Beach Club

A woman’s drunken, topless swim at Tanjong Beach Club’s pool ended up in tears when she woke up in a police cell the following day.

After having a tad too much to drink at the Sentosa club in April last year, 26-year-old Zhao Xiaotian violently struggled against attempts to get her to put her bikini top back on, and even spat, slapped and verbally abused police officers.

The intensity of her disorderly conduct was severe indeed — she was sentenced to two weeks in jail yesterday on two counts of using criminal force on a public servant in the execution of duty, The New Paper reports.

Zhao had gone to Tanjong Beach Club to meet her friends and appropriately got into party mode; they drank alcohol from 1pm till about 8.30pm. Zhao however took the party to another level and swam topless in the pool, causing a bit of commotion.

A security guard’s managed to convince her to put her top back on, but took it off again after exiting the pool. She started behaving aggressively when the guard asked for her particulars — so much so that the police had to be called in.

Two police officers later arrived (she covered herself up by then), and asked to see her identification card. Instead of cooperating, Zhao took her black bikini top and placed it on one of the officer’s shoulder. When he warned her about her conduct, she slapped him.

Shit got worse for her as she was arrested and brought back to the police car. She violently struggled all the way, spitting at two police officers and shouting vulgarities at them.

According to her lawyer, she was shocked to wake up in a cell — the traumatic experience made her stop drinking ever since.

The former Mediacorp producer will be appealing against the jail sentence, and is looking for probation instead. The two-week prison sentence is pretty decent in compared to the four years of jail-time she could have received for each charge.
