Check out new weekend brunch spot Noshery — a cafe by day and bar by night

COCONUTS HOT SPOT — How about a little peace and quiet this weekend? Tucked away in the serene Rochester Park enclave is Nosh, a rustic, romantic restaurant surrounded by lush greenery. After undergoing a revamp this year, the space now welcomes Noshery, a new concept that goes from daytime cafe to hip bar hangout at night. It sits on the ground floor of Nosh’s black-and-white colonial bungalow, with an outdoor patio next to an herb garden on one side, and a bar area serving snacks and craft beer on the other.

Leaning towards the casual side, Noshery is eclectic in design, with flora and fauna splashed all over the wallpapers, and knick knacks like vintage books, posters and postcards scattered throughout. A wooden communal table takes centre stage, filled with mismatched plates (from Chinatown, no less), while rattan chairs and marbled table tops complete the quirky look. Totally Insta-worthy.

Pop by for a long weekday lunch to escape your monotonous office work, or round up a group of friends for an indulgent weekend brunch. The all-day dining spot features hearty menu items and artisanal coffee brews — you may think it sounds just like any other cafe, but it’s one notch above the rest when it comes to good food and great vibes.

Lunch menu items

Let’s talk lunch. On the menu are pasta dishes like angel hair with marinated ikura, spicy mentaiko dressing and poached shrimp, and salami spaghetti ragu with pepperoni and chorizo. Salads and soups are also available, but we’re gonna skip those and bring you right to the mains.

Choose from meaty items like the pulled pork sandwich with a spicy BBQ sauce, the burger with sambal béarnaise, and the meatball sub with blue cheese sauce. Or try a grilled cheese sammich spread with brie and strawberry jam on sourdough.

Brunch menu items

If you’re more of a brunch person, we’d recommend the crab benedict of two perfectly poached eggs, crab cakes, roasted potatoes and a creamy coconut curry hollandaise.

Crab Benedict

For more eggy goodness, try the devil’s breakfast — two eggs of your choice, chorizo, spicy tomato ragu, sambal flakes, guac, potatoes, rustic bread and a side salad — or go down the classic route with eggs benedict.

Buttermilk biscuits

Lighter options include the yogurt and muesli bowl with honeycomb, and the pesto salad, but who are we kidding. Everyone goes to brunch for the good stuff. A trio of buttermilk biscuits with honey and salted butter works great as a starter to share, before you dig in to the yakitori salmon on a bed of coconut rice, or the beef short rib covered in a bourbon glaze.

Desserts

Just remember to save space for dessert, ’cause the rich, moist chocolate brownie topped with peanut butter ice cream is worth every single calorie. If your stomach is already begging for mercy at this point, there’s always the profiteroles with a light vanilla cream filling, or the eton mess of crushed meringues, strawberry coulis and chantilly cream.

Drinks on offer include the usual coffees, teas, slow pressed fresh juices, draught beers, ciders and wines. Craft beer on tap will be served at the beer garden in evenings, and a still-in-progress dinner menu will feature dishes like kimchi fries, fish tacos and pulled pork sliders.

Noshery is at 9 Rochester Park, 6779-4644. Tue-Fri 11.30am-10.30pm, Sat & Sun 10.30am-10.30pm; weekend brunch 10.30am-2.30pm.
