UberEATS launches strong as yet another on-demand meal delivery service in Singapore

A new challenger enters the game — not content with raging success here with their ride-sharing service, Uber has expanded their tendrils into the on-demand meal delivery scene.

Powered by the same magic algorithm that fuels Uber, UberEATS (it’s a separate app though) has officially launched today in Singapore as its first Asian experiment. Currently limited to food deliveries in the Central Business District (much like Deliveroo), UberEATS promises to expand their service coverage and menu beyond their current roster of over 100 restaurants.

Right now, folks will be able to order pricey delicacies from the likes of Burnt Ends, Pluck, Vatos Urban Tacos and other atas-ish spots, with some rare exceptions like Ayam Bakar Ojolali. No late-night munchies though — UberEATS only operates from 11am to 10pm. Good news for new users, the delivery fee of $3 will be waived for a limited time, and there’s the promo code of “UBEREATSSG” for a $15 off the first order.

The on-demand food delivery race is on then. Previously in a market dominated by FoodPanda, things started heating up with Deliveroo, which fashioned itself as a premium alternative. With the technical and financial muscle (not to mention pure ambition) of Uber though, it looks like UberEATS might give them both a ride run for their money.
