Take a dip in Singapore’s first authentic Japanese onsen at Kallang Wave Mall

Love visiting Japan for its onsen experiences? Now you don’t have to travel too far to relax, ’cause a  Japanese onsen has just landed on our shores. Yunomori Onsen & Spa is the first in Singapore to offer authentic Japanese-style public hot spring baths, and it’s located at the still-shiny, relatively new Kallang Wave Mall.

Eleven pools with six different types of baths are spread over the 16,000 sq ft space, with facilities including steam baths, saunas, a relaxing area and a cafe area. The entrance fee is $38++ for adults and $28++ for children below 15 and seniors above 65, but once you step in, there’s no time limit on your stay. So you can technically take a day off work and luxuriate in the onsen without a care in the world. Ladies get to try out the soda spa, jet bath, bubble bath, silk bath and hot bath, while men get the same and an extra hot bath.

Oh, and you do get completely naked in the onsen, so you’ll wanna go with friends whom you’re… comfortable with. But for the super shy ones, fret not — you can request for disposable undergarments (this applies to both men and women).

Feel free to add on massage and spa treatments to make it a pampering experience. On the spa menu are options like the Thai traditional massage ($88++/60min), aroma oil massage ($138++/90min) and foot massage $38++/30min).

After your relaxing session, the lounge is where you can take a nap before heading to the homestyle Jap cafe when the hunger pangs come calling. Items you can order include the hamburger steak plate ($17.90), tempura don ($15.80) and katsu don ($12.80). For something a little healthier, try the Japanese assorted plate ($17.80) of grilled fish, teriyaki chicken, tempura prawns, salad veggies and rice.

To avoid the crowds — because this is Singapore and you know there will be loads of curious aunties — plan your visit for off-peak hours.

Yunomori Onsen & Spa is at #02-17/18 Kallang Wave Mall, 1 Stadium Place, 6386-4126. Daily 10am-11pm.
