First overseas Japan Rail Cafe to open at Singapore’s new tallest building in November

A new one-stop Japanese experience is coming your way in November, and it’s called Japan Rail Cafe. As the first Japan-bound tourism-themed cafe outside of the country, the travel concept cafe opened by East Japan Railway Company (JR EAST) will sit on the ground level of what will soon be the tallest building in Singapore — Tanjong Pagar Centre. Towering over the CBD at 290m, the building is connected to Tanjong Pagar MRT station for your convenience.

At the cafe, you can expect Japanese gourmet food, kawaii trinkets, information about travel destinations in Japan that are off the beaten track, and rail ticketing services for Japanese rail passes. Every month, menu changes will be implemented, with new recipes taken from JR EAST’s eateries in Tokyo. Pop-up booths will also come and go, hawking cute stuff straight from malls in JR EAST’s train stations, and workshops will be organised to introduce the public to places in Japan other than Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.

If you do happen to be planning an upcoming trip to the Land of the Rising Sun, you can even purchase rail passes at the ticket counter in the space.

Japan Rail Cafe will open in November at #01-20/21 Tanjong Pagar Centre, 5 Wallich St.
