Man arrested for murder; victim’s grisly remains found yesterday at Lim Chu Kang

Man, it really has been a murder-heavy past couple of weeks. Aside from currently ongoing cases in Geylang, Jalan Besar and Boat Quay, there’s apparently one more gruesome occurrence at the ulu environs of Lim Chu Kang.

31-year-old Cui Yajie had gone missing one and a half weeks ago, having not reported for work since last Tuesday. It was last Thursday (Jul 14) that the police received a missing person report. They launched an appeal for information on Cui’s whereabouts, alerting the public that she was last seen wearing a black blouse and a green skirt at Fusionopolis on Jul 11 at about 9.15pm.

The suspicious circumstances of the case prompted officers from Clementi Division to collaborate closely with the Criminal Investigation Department and Police Intelligence Department. The combined efforts managed to establish the identity of a 48-year-old suspect, who was arrested yesterday.

Unfortunately, it also spelled a horrible end to the search for Cui. The suspect led the police to Lim Chu Kang Lane 8 — a deserted road near dairy farms — where her remains were found. The New Paper reports that the site had been heavily cordoned off while investigators worked through the night to recover the remains of the body.

The suspect will be charged with murder today.
